Somerset Hills YMCA is looking for artistic and passionate musicians to provide children and teens with Music Lessons for Guitar, Piano, Voice, or Woodwind Instruments. Music instructors should be confident in working with a variety of age groups and helping others achieve their goals. Music Instructors should be comfortable with basic music concepts and instruction to reach basic proficiency in their instrument of choice. Under the direction of the Youth & Family Program Coordinator, the Music Instructor will plan and teach lessons to children ages 3-11.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Teach individual or group lessons in piano, voice, woodwinds, or percussion to students of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that cater to the individual needs and goals of each student.
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to students to help them improve their musical abilities.
  • Assist with recitals, performances, or other opportunities for students to showcase their musical talents as planned by YMCA leadership.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with other music instructors and staff members to support the overall music program at Somerset Hills YMCA.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in music education, performance, or a related field, however, we will entertain applicants who are self taught or developed a passion for music through their own hobby.
  • Experience teaching music lessons, preferably in a community or educational setting, preferred.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following instruments: piano, voice, woodwinds, or percussion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students of all ages and skill levels.
  • Experience coordinating and/or participating in musical performances or events.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Somerset Hills YMCA.


Schedule:

This is a part-time position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules and program needs.
