Job Summary:

The Senior Tax Manager will have the opportunity to lead a profitable functional area of the practice, obtaining new clients, expanding services for existing clients, and leading a team of tax professionals to ensure they are delivering exceptional client service. This role supports the business development and growth initiatives of the Firm and is responsible for retaining talented staff through strong leadership, coaching and mentoring. This position will review complex individual and business tax returns. A person in this role supports the firm and its leaders by assisting with tax planning, preparing compiled financial statements, and researching complex technical tax issues.


Key Responsibilities of the Senior Tax Manager role:

  • Leads a profitable functional area of the Firm.
  • Manages and coaches’ staff to ensure performance expectations and firm standards are met.
  • Assists with business development including meeting with prospective clients, preparing quotes and proposals, and evaluating client needs.
  • Develops, builds, and manages prospective and existing client relationships.
  • Is involved in professional and community activities and participates in firm-wide marketing initiatives and efforts.
  • Communicates effectively with existing clients, colleagues, management, and IRS representatives regarding a variety of tax matters.
  • Reviews individual and business tax returns and tax planning.
  • Prepares client billings and follows-up with clients in a timely manner regarding unpaid invoices.
  • Prepares internal memoranda, written correspondence/guidance, private letter rulings and other documents for submission to the IRS or Treasury Department.
  • Handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Provides leadership and technical training for managers/supervisors, senior, and staff accountants
  • Reviews intermediate and complex levels of business and/or individual tax returns and provides effective and constructive feedback to individuals who prepared the returns.
  • Provides leadership and direction, and effectively delegates tasks.
  • Engages with staff to provide opportunities for development and seeks their input and ideas.
  • Works effectively in a team environment with principals, managers, and staff.
  • Understands and effectively uses current tax and accounting software applications when completing engagements.
  • Researches technical tax issues.

Requirements

The Senior Tax Manager should have the following education and experience:

  • 8 years of similar tax and accounting experience in a CPA firm.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of prioritization skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • CPA exam passed and license is active.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 -10 years of similar tax and accounting experience in a CPA firm.
  • Experience with ProSystems Tax Preparation software and QuickBooks.
  • Customer-service oriented, demonstrated by the following attributes: proactive, observant, knowledgeable, and reliable.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, stand or sit for extended periods of time, as well as type/enter data at a keyboard regularly.
