<p>The Analytics Instrumentation Group is part of the Analytics section, focused on providing GitLab teams with data-driven product insights. We build data collection platforms that enable product teams to understand user behavior and make evidence-based decisions through privacy-conscious instrumentation that captures product usage throughout the user lifecycle.</p>
<p>This is a generalist role that involves working across our technology stack as you solve diverse instrumentation challenges. You'll work with the Ruby on Rails GitLab codebase, Go and Python satellite services, data pipelines, and AI tool integration. You'll build Internal Events, Service Ping, and Usage Billing systems that unlock new revenue streams and provide actionable insights to Product, Engineering, and Customer Success teams.</p>

<h4>What You'll Do</h4>
<ul>
<li>Build and maintain GitLab's product usage and billing instrumentation framework and APIs.</li>
<li>Design and implement data collection architecture and compliance tools.</li>
<li>Maintain the <a href="https://docs.gitlab.com/development/internal_analytics/">Internal Analytics Platform</a>, <a href="https://docs.gitlab.com/development/internal_analytics/service_ping/">ServicePing</a>, <a href="https://metrics.gitlab.com/">Metrics Dictionary</a> and <a href="https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-services/version.gitlab.com">VersionApp</a>.</li>
<li>Support product and customer-facing teams in implementing and operationalizing data collection for decision-making.</li>
<li>Monitor platform health through alerts and dashboards.</li>
<li>Collaborate across engineering teams to support their analytics needs.</li>
</ul>
<h4>What You'll Bring</h4>
<ul>
<li>Proficiency in Ruby/Rails with ability to work in Python, Go and JavaScript as needed.</li>
<li>Strong written and verbal communication for remote, asynchronous collaboration.</li>
<li>Comfort working with APIs, data pipelines, and developer tooling.</li>
<li>Problem-solving mindset, willing to tackle challenges across different technologies and domains.</li>
<li>Mindset for leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity and solve problems creatively.</li>
<li>Ability to work in frontend codebases when needed.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Interest in AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph) and curiosity about AI agent systems.</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) preferred.</li>
<li>Experience with data warehousing & data engineering tools (Snowflake/ClickHouse/dbt/Airflow) preferred.</li>

We're a distributed team of generalist engineers who tackle complex problems spanning the GitLab codebase, JS, Go and Python satellite services, data pipelines, and AI tool integration.</p>
