JOB SUMMARY:
The Emergency Department Technician functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The ED Tech is responsible for implementing appropriate aspects of the plan of care and maintaining a safe environment for rendering effective patient care.
Duties will include obtaining and documenting a full set of vital signs, assisting with intra hospital transportation needs, collecting urine, culture, blood, sputum, and stool specimens, answering call lights, performing EKGs and ensuring transmission of results to E.H.R., assisting with organizing supplies, restocking rooms, cleaning and changing linen on stretchers, splinting of extremities, assisting during a code blue, cleaning and dressing minor wounds, applying ice to affected areas, answering phone calls, paging consultants, assisting with the transfer process, and performing the Quick Registration and The ED Tech may perform other duties, as assigned by the RN and within their scope of practice.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
The Emergency Department is a Level III facility according to the guidelines of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. The 13-bed unit is open 24 hours a day with at least one physician on duty at all times and a roster of on-call physicians and specialists available within thirty minutes. Registered nurses staff the department. All nurses are ACLS certified. The patient population includes patients of all ages, and care provided ranges from definitive treatment of non-urgent, urgent and emergent medical and surgical conditions to stabilization and transport of the critically ill or injured. Birthing Center nursing staff are available for consultation or to assist in the care of neonates, infants and obstetrical patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High School Graduate
- CPR certified
Experience:
- 2 or more years of EMS or Healthcare experience preferred.
- Post hire requirement within first 6 months of hire:
- Successful competition of the BMH ED Tech Orientation
- AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Training (available in-house)
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Healthcare CPR Certification
- Valid Vermont/National EMT-A or EMT-B certification or valid Vermont State LPN or LNA

The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
