About the Role

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, supporting high-quality, patient-centered care.  The MA performs clinical and administrative tasks in accordance with organizational policies and under the direction of a provider. This role emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, and medically appropriate care.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Prepares exam rooms and clinical materials using aseptic technique.
  2. Maintains cleanliness and restocks rooms based on inventory standards.
  3. Assists providers with exams, procedures, and treatments.
  4. Administers injections and immunizations within scope and under provider orders.
  5. Performs venipuncture and point-of-care testing.
  6. Prepares and collects lab specimens per provider orders.
  7. Instructs patients for tests and procedures as directed.
  8. Obtains and documents patient history, vitals, and data in EMR accurately and timely.
  9. Supports prescription preparation and patient education as directed.
  10. Communicates with patients professionally and compassionately.
  11. Collects patient concerns and relays them accurately to providers or appropriate staff.
  12. Assists with patient registration, scheduling, and appointment coordination as needed.
  13. Processes provider orders and prepares necessary forms and referrals.
  14. Ensures proper documentation for services; charge entry is not required.
  15. Proficiently uses Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and related systems to support patient care.
  16. Maintains accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation.
  17. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  18. Remains current in emergency procedures relevant to the role.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  2. Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical or community health setting preferred.

 

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3-months of employment.  
  2. Current Certified Medical Assistant credential (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA) preferred.
