We provide short-term overnight care, social activities and a range of therapeutic activities for children with disabilities, providing the primary caregivers with the opportunity to rest. Our staff includes child care specialists, qualified medical and administrative personnel, and volunteers who are trusted and fully equipped to care for these kids. Our respite program provides options to families that meet their unique needs and strengthen the family unit, such as including siblings to overnight care when appropriate and desired. In addition, we have Weekend Adventures programs held in Virginia, Chicago, Seattle, New Jersey, and Nashville. Direct Support Professional

Location: Lake Geneva, WI

Part Time/Seasonal - Weekend Camps (3 to 4 Weekends per year)

Jill’s House is a Christian non-profit organization and auxiliary ministry of McLean Bible Church called by God to love families raising children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 6-22) toward Jesus by providing them with short-term, overnight respite care and holistic family support services. We seek to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed to all our constituencies. We will be serving kids with intellectual disabilities in the Chicago, IL/Southeastern WI area. 

Position Overview:

We are looking for Direct Support Professionals to join our team to work weekends at camp with incredible campers with intellectual disabilities from Chicagoland and Southeastern WI. While their diagnosis might keep them from a typical camp experience, Direct Support Professionals assist to tailor weekend adventures just for them at Covenant Harbor in Lake Geneva, WI. From archery to the giant swing, talent shows, and campfire s’mores, Jill’s House campers get it all! While campers enjoy a weekend full of activities, their families get time for rest, renewal, and relationships. The rhythm of respite is vital to our families, so camp runs year-round, about every other month. 

The Direct Support Professional joins us all weekend at camp from Friday to Sunday and is responsible for:  

  • The guidance and supervision of the campers to whom they are assigned.  
  • Assisting with activities of daily living (i.e., toileting, showering, feeding, brushing teeth, etc.)
  • Ensuring safety of participants. 
  • Assisting volunteers with camper engagement. 
  • Managing behaviors and redirect campers when behaviors arise. 
  • Completing camper documentation and adhere to Jill’s House policies and procedures.  

The Overnight Direct Support Professional joins us all weekend at camp from Friday to Sunday and is responsible for:  

  • Ensuring the safety of all campers throughout the night
  • Completing bed checks every hour for about 10 campers.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living (i.e., toileting, showering, feeding, brushing teeth, etc.)
  • Managing behaviors and redirect campers when behaviors arise. 
  • Completing camper documentation and adhere to Jill’s House policies and procedures.  

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:  

  • Be at least 18 and be a high school graduate or GED. 
  • Preferred experience working with people with disabilities, or at least one year of successful experience in working directly with children. 
  • Patience, good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.  
  • Flexible team player with a willingness to learn and grow.  
  • Physical strength and stamina to participate in camp activities. 
  • Affirm the McLean Bible Church Vision and Values as well as Standards of Christian Conduct.
