Deckhand - Luxury Dining Vessel


Craft is seeking a part-time professional and guest-focused Deckhand to join our upscale European-style dining vessel, which accommodates up to 150 guests. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine traditional deck duties with exceptional hospitality service, ensuring a safe, elegant, and memorable experience for all aboard. Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain deck areas and exterior spaces to the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Assist with waste management, cleaning, and basic maintenance tasks to ensure vessel safety and aesthetics.
  • Operate and maintain deck equipment in accordance with safety procedures and regulations.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to passengers during boarding, disembarking, and throughout their experience.
  • Support the crew in safety drills and emergency procedures as required.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest service.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid state-issued ID card.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, with a focus on delivering a high-end guest experience.
  • Prior experience in deckhand duties, maritime safety, or hospitality preferred.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and maritime regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a guest-centric approach.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Valid maritime or safety certifications are a plus.
  • Must pass a drug screening and background check.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods (4+ hours), including walking, standing, and moving through the vessel. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders safely and repeatedly. 
  • Ability to maintain balance and maneuver in confined, narrow, wet, or slippery workspaces.
  • Ability to assist with lifting or lowering passengers (up to 225 pounds) between the vessel and the water, with proper technique and teamwork.
  • Ability to swim unassisted for at least 100 yards.
  • Ability to tread water continuously for a minimum of three (3) minutes.

Requirements

Education/Formal Training/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Uniform Requirements:
Before or After Cruises:

  • Company-issued t-shirt with logo
  • Shorts or jeans (employee-supplied)
  • Solid-color socks
  • Black, rubber-soled work shoes (employee-supplied)
  • Company-issued hat (optional)

During Cruises:

  • Company-issued gray CNT (crew name tag) and silver buckle
  • Black poly-blend dress pants (employee-supplied)
  • Black socks
  • Black, slip-resistant dress shoes (employee-supplied)
  • Company-issued jacket (optional, as needed)

Position Classification: 
This position is classified as safety-sensitive and must adhere to all United States Coast Guard (USCG) standards and regulations applicable to our industry. Employees in this role will be onboard the vessel and away from shore or dock for durations ranging from 2 to 6 hours per cruise.
