About the Role

Description

Essential Functions

  • May act as scrub nurse or circulating nurse during operative procedures. Checks medical gas alarm panel and sterilizers required by the day’s surgery schedule for proper functioning, at the beginning of the surgery day. Assists Scrub Tech with opening supplies for case. Prepares patient for surgery by verifying patient identity and scheduled procedure and assists patient into OR. Helps to relieve patient’s apprehension before and during administration of anesthesia; offers assistance to anesthesia personnel as needed. Remains at patient’s side during induction. Performs surgical prep.
  • Makes available additional instruments and supplies as requested during the operation. Records vital signs and gives medications as ordered by physician or anesthesia personnel, during local sedation cases. Counts sponges and needles that may be required by surgical case/procedure. Assists in transferring patient to PACU. Assures that supplies for each case are ready for use. Assists in cleaning of room after a case.
  • Assists with post-op call to patient and documents call and patient’s responses on patient’s record. Takes inventory and restocks supplies as needed in O.R. Updates Physicians’ cards as needed. Performs functions in the instrument processing system. Assists with nursing functions in other clinical areas.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary.
  • As scrub nurse: Shares responsibility with the Circulating Nurse for ensuring that supplies for each case have been collected and readied for the day’s schedule. Dusts all lights and flat surfaces of room prior to first case in A.M.
  • When scrubbed, is responsible for: Assists with draping patient. Arranges instruments and supplies in convenient manner. Opens and prepares sutures. Assists Surgeon throughout operation by providing the sterile instruments and supplies he requires to perform the procedure. Assures a sterile field is maintained in and around the operating site during the procedure. Counts sponges and needles with Circulating Nurse as applicable. Cleans instruments at end of each case. Cleans O.R. at end of each case.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills. Complies with safety and emergency procedures consistent with Center policy. Complies with all Center policies. Participates in unit cost containment measures. Performs other duties as deemed necessary.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing. Active Florida RN license. Minimum of One (1) year experience in O.R. Current CPR, ACLS certification.

Preferred Education and Experience: CNOR preferred.


*Must have flexible scheduling every week to work once a week any day.
