Nurses here usually have a 1:3 to 1:5 ratio during the day, and 1:5 on night shifts. </p><p>This unit is part of Duke University Hospital's innovation initiative, designed to redefine care delivery by integrating cutting-edge technologies that enhance patient outcomes, streamline workflows, and improve operational efficiency. Units 2100, 3100, and 4100 at Duke North are piloting smart room capabilities, automated signage, and virtual access for care teams and families. Future enhancements include predictive tools for fall prevention and ambient listening for documentation. Staff foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, collaborating across departments to explore solutions like expedited medication delivery, all aimed at improving the patient experience and reducing length of stay.</p><p> </p><p>Shift Preference: Day Shift (3/12 hour shifts per week)</p><p> </p><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities of this Level</strong></p><ul type="disc"><li>Plan, provide and document professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.</li><li>Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.</li><li>Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care.</li><li>Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and material resources. Prioritize work organization and identify resources available to assist in completing components of care in a timely manner.</li><li>Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.</li><li>Support the development of other staff and formal learners.</li><li>Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement activities.</li><li>Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Required Qualifications at this Level</strong></p><p> </p><p><strong>Education</strong></p><ul type="disc"><li>Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.</li><li>All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification</strong></p><ul type="disc"><li>Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
