Seagate Commodity Management Group plays a crucial role in delivering Seagate’s global vision and mission. Through effective management of localized sourcing and supplier partnerships, it ensures that Seagate’s precision-engineered data solutions are developed, produced, and delivered efficiently, sustainably, and profitably—truly crafting a better datasphere. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement and supply chain activities for commodities in the hard disk drive industry, collaborating with overseas internal teams and external suppliers to ensure efficient and cost-effective sourcing strategies. 

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Commodity expertise to join our dynamic team in Tokyo, Japan. 

By joining this team, candidates will build a strong foundation in technical expertise, cultural intelligence, and strategic decision-making—equipping them to successfully manage Japanese component suppliers and excel in supply chain management within a fast-paced, high-performance technology environment.

About the role - you will:

 

  • Be responsible for Japanese component suppliers, the role involves overseeing the sourcing, procurement, and management of components from suppliers based in Japan and Japanese manufacturing sites inside and outside of Japan. The Commodity lead will  act as the primary point of contact between our organization and these suppliers, ensuring a reliable supply chain for critical components. 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Supplier Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong partnerships with Japanese suppliers, fostering trust, and ensuring clear communication to align on quality, delivery, and cost expectations
  • Negotiation and Contracting: Negotiating pricing, terms, and contracts to secure cost-effective and timely supply agreements while adhering to quality standards
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Monitoring supplier performance, managing delivery schedules, and addressing any issues like delays or quality concerns to ensure a steady flow of components
  • Cost and Quality Optimization: Working with suppliers to optimize component costs without compromising quality, often collaborating on design or process improvements
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks in the supply chain, such as disruptions due to market conditions, logistics, or geopolitical factors, to maintain continuity
  • Cultural and Market Awareness: Leveraging an understanding of Japanese business culture and market dynamics to effectively collaborate with suppliers and navigate challenges

 

Note: This role is an Individual Role (IC)

About you:

 

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Japanese is mandatory to facilitate communication with global teams and suppliers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with international teams and suppliers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Must be willing to work full-time in Tokyo, Japan

Your experience includes:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity management, procurement, or supply chain roles, preferably in the hard disk drive or electronics industry
  • Technical experience in manufacturing or engineering is highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field

The area offers excellent transit accessibility—Tennoz is near major rail lines around Shinagawa Station, which connects the JR Tokaido Shinkansen and local subway networks.
