JOB TITLE: Dental Benefits Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Dental
REPORTS TO: Director of Dental Services
STATUS: Non-exempt
SUMMARY:
The Dental Benefits Coordinator is responsible for providing excellent customer service for the dental department while delivering benefits coordination services to patients. This role also ensures patient access coordination and a consistent revenue cycle process in the dental department through conducting insurance verification and scheduling, dental claims filing, resolution and patient accounts receivable.

Revenue Cycle
- Reviews patient schedules in dental clinic scheduling system to identify patients with upcoming appointments who need assessment for benefit coverage.
- Performs insurance verification and confirms network coverage in alignment with a patient treatment plan.
- Identify and provide benefit coordination services to patients who may be eligible for state or federal programs e.g., Medicaid or PHS sliding scale fee program.
- Works in collaboration with PHS’s billing department to complete necessary back-billing for patients who gain access to coverage.
- Answer patients’ questions related to billing statements and collaborate with the billing department to support patients in resolving issues.
- Support Director of Dental Services with projects and initiatives to improve revenue cycle efficiency of the dental department.
Patient Access Coordination
- Help patients gain a better understanding of their treatment plan and explain any necessary steps it takes to complete
- Performs patient pre-registration and scheduling using practice management software
- Review and maintain patient accounts accurately
- Collaborate with the patient access department to support patients in scheduling appointments.
- Support Director of Dental Services with projects and initiatives to improve patient access efficiency of the dental department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a high school diploma and at least 2 years' experience working in a dental setting providing exceptional customer service. Background in dental benefits or coding is highly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to gain knowledge of current practice management system, electronic medical record, Microsoft Word, text paging, Internet, and Intranet.
