About the Role

JOB SUMMARY: 

This is a supervisory position under general direction. The GIS manager is expected to serve as the City's point of contact on GIS matters. The GIS Manager will also provide project support, technical expertise, and training to city GIS users. Duties include, but are not limited to: Coordinating GIS activities with City departments and lead GIS initiatives with external organizations. In addition, the GIS Manager will be responsible for setting project goals and objectives and Interpret work requests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

• Consult with users, management, vendors, and other GIS staff to determine needs and system requirements.

• Coordinate the acquisition of new spatial data and manage the integration of this data into the city's GIS.

• Oversee ongoing improvements and the feasibility of system enhancements.

• Develop, implement, coordinate, and maintain city-wide GIS standards, policies and procedures.

• Assist in preparing, monitoring, adjusting and approving GIS-related budgets.

• Coordinate the installation and testing of applications programs and write the documentation that describes the operating procedures.

• Assist in analyzing GIS related workflows and the assigning or scheduling of work to meet priorities and goals.

• Operate and maintain GIS hardware and software, including developing and/or modifying applications software and/or related sub-system applications software.

• Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy; identify and correct errors or omissions in the data.

• Recommend and, where appropriate, develop GIS and related training programs.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduation from high school or a General education Development (GED) Certificate.

• A Bachelors Degree in Geographic Information Systems or similar discipline is preferable.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Five (5) year of experience working with Geographic Information Systems and mobile GPS equipment. Proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE software is preferred. Experience with municipal government is desirable.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

• Valid Texas Driver's License.
