Job Description

AHRC New York City is seeking a full-time Employment Skills Instructor to support young adults with disabilities as they build workplace readiness and develop vocational skills through hands-on internship rotations. This position is primarily based at a hospital in New Hyde Park on the Queens/Long Island border, providing on-the-job training, coaching, and individualized support to help interns prepare for competitive employment.

About the Role

Interns typically finish their day around 2:00 p.m., after which the instructor will either continue providing job coaching in the surrounding area or travel to the AHRC office in Long Island City (LIC) to complete documentation and other required tasks. Travel to the LIC office is expected approximately twice a month, with additional job-coaching travel as needed.

Location: New Hyde Park Hospital – 270-05 76th Ave, Queens, NY 11040

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm

Salary: $42,000 per year + Comprehensive Benefits (including FREE Medical Insurance!). See additional Benefit information below.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized on-the-job training to interns, including task analysis, systematic instruction, and workplace skill development.
  • Support interns in increasing independence, building workplace behaviors, and developing soft skills (communication, grooming, interviewing, etc.).
  • Collaborate with instructors, employers, families, and school/agency partners regarding intern progress and workplace expectations.
  • Conduct or assist with assessments (e.g., Vocational Fit) to help match interns with appropriate internship tasks.
  • Accurately document progress, workplace observations, and training notes in a timely manner.
  • Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and trainings as required.
  • Provide job coaching to interns in nearby community locations in Queens

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of related experience, OR High school diploma + 6 years of related experience
  • Experience working with youth or adults with disabilities highly preferred
  • Experience implementing instructional strategies in workplace or vocational settings
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, employers, and school/agency partners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to travel to internship sites and the LIC office as required
  • Driver’s license preferred
