Job Description

The salary for this role is £42,858 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days a week.

This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire 

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. 

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Technician to join the RACE team, responsible for leading and supporting the wiring, modification, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of advanced electromechanical remote handling systems. In this role, you will undertake and supervise the technician team in the wiring, testing, and commissioning of circuits and equipment for remote handling systems, as well as oversee maintenance activities, including prompt fault finding and repair of electrical systems. This is a hands-on position offering the opportunity to work on both existing equipment and the development of innovative new systems, contributing to cutting-edge engineering projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

If you are skilled in diagnosing and resolving faults in electrical systems and devices, and experienced in supervising workshop operations and managing technician teams, we would like to hear from you.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with project teams and stakeholders, clearly reporting faults, required resolutions, expected repair timelines, and potential build or operational issues.

  • Support workshop management by prioritising tasks, highlighting issues where targets cannot be met, deputising for the Electrical Workshop Manager when required, and assisting the Remote Handling Electrical Plant Manager with shutdown preparations and equipment movement.

  • Oversee electrical procedures and maintenance by developing and implementing procedures for the build, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of equipment, and acting as the Maintenance Responsible Officer for RACE systems.

  • Ensure safe working practices by following relevant risk assessments and procedures within the electrical workshop and associated work areas.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using operational documentation systems (ODS/OMS) and provide guidance and support to the technician team as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • A relevant engineering degree /HND or HNC/ apprenticeship or equivalent with significant industry experience
  • Qualified to the current BS7671 Wiring Regulations.
  • Ability to understand and work from drawings and schematics
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crimping and soldering techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of assembly of high-density connectors
