About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Boarding for a K-12 bilingual school based in Chongqing. This position is available from the upcoming academic year in Fall 2026.

 

About the school

The school is a vibrant bilingual K–12 day and boarding school located in the Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing, combining Chinese curriculum with an international, English-language educational pathway designed to develop confident, curious global citizens. With approximately 300 students spanning early childhood through high school and around 80 teachers, the campus emphasises small-class learning, a strong pastoral system and a broad co-curricular programme that supports both academic excellence and personal growth.

 

About the role

The Head of Boarding leads and manages the boarding provision, ensuring the safety, wellbeing and personal development of all boarders while driving sustained improvement, quality assurance and full compliance. Reporting to the Headmaster, the post holder sets the pastoral and academic vision for boarding, provides professional leadership to the boarding team, and plays a key role in recruiting boarders and boarding staff. The role requires close collaboration with whole-school leadership to maintain a vibrant, thriving community and to uphold outstanding standards of pastoral care across boarding and day Houses. This is a residential position and the post holder is required to live on, or adjacent to, the school site.

  • Lead the pastoral and academic vision for boarding; create and deliver the Boarding Development Plan.
  • Line-manage Housemasters and the boarding team; set rotas, duties, and clear expectations.
  • Design and quality-assure the boarding curriculum (incl. English reading programme) and drive consistent delivery.
  • Safeguarding lead for boarding: maintain up-to-date policies, records (welfare/incident/exeat), and disciplinary procedures.
  • Oversee risk assessments, health & safety, fire drills, security, and overall boarder welfare.
  • Use data and self-review/peer review to meet accreditation standards; run regular boarding QA.
  • Recruit, induct, appraise and develop boarding staff; organise targeted CPD and first-aid training.
  • Coordinate interventions for individual students with academic/pastoral teams to support progress and wellbeing.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with parents on reporting, interventions, and daily matters.
  • Support marketing and admissions: interviews, open days, events, and boarding publicity as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above; teaching qualification preferred; evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Strong knowledge of the UK curriculum and effective use of ICT; experience supporting EAL learners
  • Secure safeguarding knowledge; effective behaviour management; pastoral or boarding-house experience is an advantage
  • Personal qualities: inspiring leader, high integrity, collaborative, adaptable, and excellent communication and organisational skills focused on student welfare
