Our Boilers and Gasifier solutions Technology Unit is seeking a Lead Engineer for process engineering to our team preferably in Tampere or Raisio. However, if you have gained the level of experience and competence that this technical role requires, we are open to consider also other Valmet locations. In this role you will become part of the global customer application team where your line manager is based in Sweden and the team leader for day-to-day activities in Finland. This role is a temporary position until end of January 2027.

Who is the professional we are looking for? 

In this role, you will serve as a technical expert for fluidized bed boiler and gasification and/or balance of plant as well as auxiliary systems and process engineering. In the sales phase, you will collaborate with the team to define technical concepts, assess the capacities of the main equipment, design process systems, and prepare comprehensive technical proposal documentation. During project delivery, you will continue the process engineering activities by closely coordinating with customers, sub-suppliers, and other disciplines.

Your main tasks and focus areas are: 

• Performing calculations

• Preparing technical specifications for equipment inquiries

• Conducting design work

• Leading hazard and risk analyses

• Providing theoretical training to the customer’s operators

• Providing support to the commissioning team during site activities

• Managing communication and documentation

To succeed in this role

We value team players with a positive can-do attitude who enjoy engaging with customers, understanding their needs, and providing clear and concise technical recommendations. You should be capable of both detailed calculation work and understanding the broader project context, able to plan and prioritize tasks independently while knowing when to seek support. Adaptability and the ability to deliver results within tight project schedules are essential skills.

In addition, the qualified candidate should fulfil the following requirements:

• Master’s degree in thermal, energy and environmental, chemical, or process engineering.

• Expertise in combustion, boiler processes and auxiliary systems and equipment.

• Previous experience in a similar industry in engineering role is highly valued

• Excellent communication skills in English, Finnish language skills are a strong plus

• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally
