Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility that provides power to rural Wright County and western Hennepin County. The cooperative has been a corporate citizen to the area since 1937 and currently serves more than 50,000 electric accounts.


The Marketing and Communications Specialist is a digital storyteller responsible for creating engaging social media, video, and multimedia content. This role develops, creates and distributes content to inform, educate and influence existing and potential customers of various WHE and WH Holding businesses through a multi-channel workplan to support strategic business goals.


Working closely and collaborating with the Communications Specialist, this role develops and executes multi-channel content plans; optimizes performance based on analytics; collaborates with team members for cohesive messaging; and delivers insights that guide future campaigns. The ideal candidate is creative, audience-obsessed, eager to experiment with new formats, and able to translate business goals into scroll-stopping content. The candidate is expected to learn the business and have an excellent grasp of subject matter.


This position reports to the VP Marketing, Communications and Member Services, and works closely with the other members of a small marketing and communications team. Wright-Hennepin communicates with members of the electric Cooperative as well as customers in the security and alarm monitoring industries.


Location:

This is a full-time in-office position at our company headquarters. We are based in Rockford MN, 15 miles west of Plymouth on Hwy 55.

Pay & Benefits:

Pay Range - $25.00-35.00/hour depending on experience and qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  

Customer Engagement

  • Manage and grow social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms).
  • Develop platform-specific social content including short videos, Reels, TikTok-style clips, graphics, stories, livestreams and community posts.
  • Use social listening and analytics tools to monitor performance and trends, optimize engagement and inform content strategy.
  • Create and manage paid social media campaigns to support awareness, lead generation and conversions.
  • Foster relationships with customers through responsive community management and digital engagement. 

Content Creation & Digital Marketing

  • Produce high-quality short- and long-form video content, including filming, editing and motion graphics as needed.
  • Create digital assets including graphics, illustrations, animations, and visuals optimized for social and mobile consumption.
  • Photograph people, products, events and environments to support authentic storytelling.
  • Gather insights, audience data and campaign metrics to inform content decisions and refine messaging.
  • Collaborate with internal teams—including   sales and customer support—to identify content needs, messaging priorities and user barriers.
  • Collaborate with marketing leadership to define and strengthen the digital brand voice, ensuring all content aligns with overall brand strategy and audience expectations.
  • Manage or collaborate with external vendors, freelancers, and creatives.
  • Contribute to yearly marketing plans, content calendars and resource allocation.
  • Proactively suggest new content formats, digital tools, storytelling angles and optimization opportunities.
  • Track and analyze campaign data, reporting trends, insights and recommendations.
  • Assist with/manage and Google Ads and assist with web-based advertising strategies.

Event Content & Support 

  • Assist in planning and promoting events through social storytelling, video and live content coverage and digital marketing.
  • Attend occasional after-hours events (5–10 per year) for content capture and brand representation. 

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Four-year degree in communications, marketing, or related field or commensurate experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, specifically OneDrive, Sharepoint, Teams, Word and Excel
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Demonstrated experience operating professional photography equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting and audio gear, with understanding of exposure, composition and file management.

  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of marketing funnel, KPIs, B2B, B2C, and compelling CTAs
  • Preferred project management platform familiarity 
  • Demonstrated digital marketing experience 
  • Comfortable interviewing sources for content
  • Comfortable interacting with sales and member experience team to gather feedback
  • An interest in learning about the electric industry and cooperative culture
