The Information Technology Office (ITO) at the CUHK Business School is responsible for overseeing IT infrastructures and offering a wide range of services including but not limited to user and technical support, cloud computing, network, systems operation and maintenance, etc. at the School level.
The School has recently set up a communal Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and is looking for an organised and innovative fast-mover to support the operation, management and administration of the infrastructure. The appointee is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and reliable operation of high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure and related systems that support research, teaching, and development of AI / machine learning projects. The role ensures that computing resources are secure, performant, well-documented, and user-friendly to faculty, staff and students.
Reporting to the Head of the School’s ITO and / or his / her delegate(s), as well as working closely with various stakeholders, the appointee will be responsible for (a) operating, maintaining, and expanding the HPC clusters, compute nodes, storage, and interconnects; (b) installing, updatng, and configuring AI / HPC software stacks, libraries, and dependencies; (c) enforcing system security standards, manage user access, and apply patches and hardening; (d) designing, implementing, and testing backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures; (e) maintaining and publishing system documentation, user guides, and operational procedures for in-house training and coaching; (f) coordinating with vendors for procurement, system upgrades, maintenance, and technical support; (g) assisting with deployment of AI / ML models for inference in the School’s internal production environments; (h) providing technical support and necessary coaching and training to various stakeholders and performing other duties, including administrative duties and financial matters, as assigned to support the AI infrastructure and its daily operation; and (i) undertaking other impromptu duties as assigned. Working at flexible hours, including weekends, will be required.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Engineering, or a related discipline; (ii) at least 3 years of post-qualification work experience; (iii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); (iv) relevant experience in Linux / HPC / server administration / experience with GPU systems or cloud-based HPC platforms and are considered must; (v) hands-on experience with cluster management, job schedulers (e.g. Slurm), and container technologies (e.g. Docker, Singularity); (vi) knowledge of network, storage, and data security management; (vii) strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills; and (viii) the ability to work independently and as a team with a diverse group of stakeholders to achieve set outcomes. Having prior work experience in the tertiary education sector is an advantage.
