About the Role
The Practice Development Nurse – Specialist is responsible for supporting the professional development of all permanent and program staff across our clinical settings. Their primary role is to ensure best practice by providing ongoing education and support for all staff with particular focus on the advancement of knowledge, skills and training with relevance to the clinical setting. This will be achieved by implementing clinically based education using the principles of Evidenced Based Practice to improve the delivery of nursing care. Furthermore, they will be responsible for their own professional development in order to maintain expert clinical skills and advanced knowledge.
Classifications for this role is RN35 ($122,907.20 per annum, pro rata).
Duties
- Facilitation of practice development of nursing staff in allocated areas.
- Provide direct clinical support to nursing staff participating in learner programs, including, Pre- Registration, RN Graduate, EN Transition, Pathway and Transition to Specialty Practice, Postgraduate and other nursing programs within specialist settings.
- Conduct assessments of clinical hurdles, facilitation of tutorials and study days, completion of appraisals, and ongoing support relevant to education programs within clinical area.
- Regularly report on learner progress to E&L Coordinators and NUMs, escalating concerns in accordance with established guidelines and protocols.
- Provide support for program staff on Supported Learning Plans across various clinical areas, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of progress in collaboration with E&L Coordinators, NUMs, and local clinical teams.
- Recognise and escalate concerns relating to learner wellbeing, clinical risk, or professional conduct in line with organisational policies and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Provide support to preceptors and clinical supervisors involved in learner support, ensuring consistency and quality in the learner experience across clinical settings.
- Facilitate local clinical competencies and mandatory training in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and local trainers.
- Support multidisciplinary education initiatives by working with allied health, medical, and other healthcare professionals to deliver interprofessional learning that enhances collaborative care and patient outcomes, as directed by the E&L Manager or Coordinator.
- Contribute to the orientation of new nursing staff and support their transition into the clinical environment to promote safety and confidence in practice.
- Facilitate education and clinical skills sessions that build the knowledge, confidence, and competence of staff across SVHM, with a focus on the relevant specialty area.
- Collaborate with the E&L team to deliver workshops, study days, and structured programs that support staff development.
- Support the implementation of changes in nursing practice at both local and organisational levels, helping ensure effective adoption of new procedures or protocols, as directed by the E&L Manager or Coordinator.
- Assist in the review and development of policies and educational resources to ensure alignment with current best practice and regulatory standards, as directed by the E&L Manager or Coordinator.
- Assist with the recruitment of learners into education programs.

- Participate in delivery of education and training for other E&L programs as per knowledge and clinical experience.
- Support the development of new E&L programs and engage in innovation and research activities that elevate care quality and nursing standards, as directed by the E&L Manager or Coordinator.
- Integrate digital tools, simulation, and e-learning strategies into education programs to improve accessibility and learning outcomes.
- Use data and learner feedback to identify practice gaps and design targeted education initiatives to address these needs.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice by encouraging staff participation in ongoing professional development. This includes maintaining own clinical competence and engaging in professional reflection to ensure high-quality education delivery.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Current Nursing Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Degree in General Nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia.
- Postgraduate Qualifications in relevant nursing speciality, preferably a Masters in Advanced Nursing or working towards.
- Postgraduate qualification in Education, Clinical Supervision or similar (or working towards)
- Experience in development, delivery and coordination of Nursing Education Programs.
