We are currently seeking a IBM iSeries System Engineering Supervisor to join our team in the Nashville, TN area. This position is responsible for the overall health and maintenance of auction IBM i servers and internal servers used for development and testing by Auction Edge employees, and will perform tasks required by the IBM sales representative of an IBM business partner including managing the relationship between IBM, IBM authorized Distributors, and Auction Edge.
Responsibilities
- IBM i Expertise & Strategy: Serve as the subject matter expert for IBM i (formerly AS/400) systems, driving hardware/software recommendations and strategic planning.
- System Maintenance & Upgrades (100+ Systems):
- Manage the full lifecycle of over 100 IBM i installations, including deployment, configuration, performance monitoring, and necessary hardware/OS upgrades, patches, and security enhancements.
- Conduct monthly hardware integrity checks and ensure proper server backups across all auction locations.
- Team Leadership & Project Oversight:
- Lead and manage a small team responsible for the day-to-day setup, configuration, and pre-loading of new IBM servers.
- Oversee server procurement, ordering, tracking, delivery logistics (including returns), and adherence to IBM discount program guidelines.
- Coordinate projects, provide visibility to stakeholders, and align project priorities with other teams.
- Technical Support & Problem Resolution:
- Provide expert troubleshooting, guidance, and problem resolution for IBM i systems, peripherals (printers, terminals), and internal staff/auction requests.
- Diagnose system issues (hardware, software, user error), involving vendors (IBM) or internal support as needed.
- Compliance, Security, and Business Continuity:
- Develop, maintain, and implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans (DR/BCP), including supporting data replication to the hot site server.
- Maintain system security and integrity by testing software, managing secure communications (e.g., FTP with Digital Certificates via DCM), and preventing software piracy via license key management.
- Ensure compliance with SOX and SSAE16 Type 2 by writing and maintaining required procedures and assisting with audits.
- Infrastructure Support: Provide backup support for other hardware department functions, including firewall, phone system, network, handheld devices, and general equipment orders.
- Web and Platform Support: Support various web solutions running on the IBM i platform, including Open PHP and Apache Web Server.
- Operational Documentation & Assurance: Document all procedures and processes to ensure operational continuity, and conduct system assurance meetings for all upgrades and migrations.
- After-Hours Availability: Work weekends and nights as required for system migrations, installs, and critical support needs.

Qualifications
- 6+ years of relevant experience in a systems engineering or related infrastructure role.
- 2+ years of team management or supervisory experience or other relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of IBM i OS, work management, and system performance components.
- Proficiency in installing, configuring, and supporting IBM i hardware (including making hardware modifications, disk/memory upgrades, and system migrations).
- Strong understanding of IBM i security (user profiles) and operations (work management, backups).
- Ability to program in IBM Control Language (CL) to automate functions like startup, save/restores, and backups.
- Working knowledge of network connectivity components, including TCP/IP communications over Ethernet LAN/WAN and secure protocols like Telnet and FTP over SSL.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software problems through analysis and resolution planning.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate across teams.
- Current IBM Power Systems Scale-Up Technical Sales certification (Power9 preferred) or demonstrable experience.
- Experience in Software Engineering, iSeries Programming, IT Security, and Disaster Recovery Planning.
