The Senior Commercial Data Scientist is a hybrid business/data-science role that will collaborate with cross-functional, learning from both their direct peers in Alexander Group’s Data Science function and from more business-oriented peers in the firm’s general consulting practice. This role will be client-facing – the Sr. Commercial Data Scientist will work with project teams to present and interpret statistical analyses and models in business contexts. The Sr. Commercial Data Scientist will be expected to independently interpret and tune machine learning algorithms, work in big data environments, apply statistical methods to develop robust solutions to client problems, have strong communication skills to communicate project findings to both internal and external stakeholders, and participate in client meetings. Responsibilities:

  • Independently create, apply and interpret advanced statistical and machine learning approaches to solve a variety of business problems through client projects
  • Serve as data and modeling SME on client projects – advise on data preparation, enrichment, model architecture, integration, etc.
  • Understand client business problems and context in detail and design solutions in alignment with project objectives and in collaboration with broader consulting team
  • Communicate project findings, conclusions and recommendations to your peers
  • Participate in and lead portions of client meetings to review and present analytical approaches and modeling results, answer questions and discuss feedback
  • Contribute to general project needs and deliverables such as status updates, meeting content and project handoff/implementation materials
  • Help standardize/consolidate modeling approaches to support optimization of Data Science project delivery
  • Support Data Science practice development and participate in team meetings (e.g., new service offerings, content curation, trainings, etc.)

Requirements

 

  

  • Candidates must be fully eligible to work in the United States without current or potential future need for visa sponsorship. TN visa accepted
  • Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree with record of solid academic achievement (Majors: math, economics, statistics, data science, computer science)
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Ability to execute responsibilities with a high degree of independence
  • Applied experience build data science models to support commercial organization required  
  • Has worked on data science projects in a consulting capacity - Highly preferred
  • Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms for regression/classification
  • Proficiency with open-source data science languages – Python required, R also preferred
  • Experience with Data Visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau
  • Familiarity with corporate data architectures and tools such as DB/warehousing is a plus
  • Moderate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills are preferred
  • Strong foundation of business knowledge (Sales and Marketing experience preferred)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects
  • Strong interpersonal, team working skills and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to learn quickly and resourcefully; high degree of motivation, flexibility and creativity
  • Positive attitude and strong willingness to learn from mentors and peers
  • Ability to travel for internal team and in-person client meetings (sometimes on short notice)

Salary: $145,000 - 165,000 base; bonus eligible
