The Charleston County Aviation Authority (CCAA) owns and operates the Charleston International Airport (CHS), Charleston Executive Airport (JZI) on Johns Island and the Mount Pleasant Regional Airport (LRO). Chartered in 1970 by the State of South Carolina as a special purpose district, it is responsible for managing, operating and developing all public airports in the Charleston County Airport District. The Aviation Authority coordinates its activities with the Federal Aviation Administration and the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. The Aviation Authority District is governed by a 11-member board. The South Carolina House and Senate delegations representing Charleston County each nominate three members (approved by the governor) and one member is jointly appointed by the Charleston County Council and the Charleston City Council. The mayors of the City of Charleston, City of North Charleston and Town of Mount Pleasant, the chairman of Charleston County Council and the chairman and vice chairman of the Charleston County Legislative Delegation serve as ex-officio board members. The appointed members serve four-year terms.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining HVAC equipment for the Charleston Regional Aviation Authority (CRAA) terminal. This position reports to the Supervisor of HVAC Maintenance.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Maintains HVAC equipment to ensure consistent and optimal levels: Tightens, adjusts, repairs, replaces, and calibrates boilers, cooling towers, variable frequency drives, motor control contactors, pumps, etc. Monitor and operate on chillers; fabricates, and installs ductwork, airflow systems, condensers, refrigeration to accommodate new and existing building and equipment requirements at all sites. Removes old equipment and refrigerants according to applicable laws and safety standards.
  • Performs a variety of electrical repair and maintenance duties. Installs, adjusts, repairs, or replaces, motors, heaters, transformers, dampers and other electrical apparatus. Operates electrical equipment; tests, adjusts and calibrates heating and air conditioning machinery and mechanical, electrical, and digital control instruments; operates, maintains, inspects and repairs heating, air conditioning refrigeration, water treatment, co-generation, heat reclamation, thermal energy storage, ventilation, and air compressor equipment used with HVAC.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on high voltage switch gear, as it relates to HVAC or related equipment; responds to reports of heating or cooling problems, suspicious odors, electrical problems, refrigeration problems, and other urgent situations; maintains, inspects, diagnoses, and makes emergency repairs to natural gas, water, refrigeration, and air distribution systems.
  • Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
  • Communicates with Aviation Authority officials, supervisor, other employees, vendors, tenants. clients, third party service contractors, laborers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. 

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: 

  • High school vocational course work or technical training leading to a certificate in HVAC Maintenance. 
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a related field of work. 
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

Specific License or Certification Required:

  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
  • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Certification
