Mō te tūranga | About the role

Based in Greymouth, you’ll work on the Paparoa Great Walk and Pike Valley, contributing to the mahi surrounding infrastructure for Heritage and Visitor Assets with the support of a dedicated team. Your work will include:

  • maintaining the Great Walk Track and Pike29 Track and Pike Valley

  • maintaining both back country and front country sites

  • maintaining Great Walk huts, bridges, and other structures

  • maintenance of the bespoke dual use track

  • construction/ building work when required.

  • assisting the wider operational teams when needed (Biodiversity and Community and Greymouth/ Reefton Heritage and Vistors teams)

You will be joining a positive and enthusiast team delivering conservation outcomes on the Paparoa Track and Pike Valley.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

We are looking for a confident communicator who can work well in a team environment as well as alone. If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

  • a valid Driver's licence

  • class 2 Motorcycle licence

  • hands on practical skills ideally with experience in Great Walk Track maintenance or general maintenance

  • experience working on dual usage tracks with swales and shape as drainage systems.

  • a high level of physical fitness and experience in the backcountry, particularly in remote and rugged terrain

  • good planning and organisational skills

  • tech savvy skills and experience using App’s and computer-based systems

  • a strong health and safety focus.

The Greymouth and Reefton Heritage and Visitor Team consist of 10 full time staff, 3 of those being based in the Reefton field Centre. The 2 teams work together on a variety of different work tasks. We have a great positive work culture and often work across teams when there is priority work on.  You will be joining a supportive team, who value their staff and invest in personal development and growth

The salary range for this position is $60,703 to $66,911 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
