Range:   $64,400 - $68,425

SUMMARY The Transportation Manager is a key role responsible for leading a transportation team of drivers, with an emphasis on operational excellence, fostering a strong safety culture, and ensuring strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Transportation Manager manages the day-to-day operations, including dispatch, driver performance, and fleet readiness. This role is essential in upholding safety and regulatory standards while maximizing customer satisfaction through timely pickups and deliveries.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Team Leadership & Driver Management

  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of Feeding Tampa Bay
  • Supervise the transportation staff (drivers and support), handling all aspects of training, coaching, development, and performance evaluations.
  • Demonstrate adaptive leadership to motivate the driving team, fostering an environment of continuous feedback, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Manage daily driver scheduling and dispatching to ensure the timely recovery and delivery of product, adhering to time windows and service level agreements.
  • Ensure all drivers represent the professional image of the food bank by maintaining safe, clean vehicles free of debris.
  • Supervises the weekly drivers' meeting, focusing on professional development and team-building strategies.


Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and complete driver files per Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements (e.g., certifications, medical cards, regulatory documentation).
  • Enforce safety processes, ensuring thorough pre-trip/post-trip inspections are conducted and daily logs are accurate.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety incidents; report accidents or injuries immediately to the People & Culture (P&C) team, Director of Logistics, Sr. Dir. of Operations, and COO.
  • Partner with the Logistics Manager to align fleet availability with the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Operations & Administration
  • Coordinate day-to-day product distribution and retrieval needs in collaboration with the Logistics Manager and Warehouse teams.
  • Manage transportation budgeting, monitor operational costs, and prepare financial reports to identify opportunities for expense reduction.
  • Utilize transportation tracking tools and software to generate daily operational data and status reports for Senior Leadership.
  • Serve as a core member of the disaster response command team, activating as needed during crisis operations.


Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or related field preferred. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in fleet management or transportation supervision, with a strong emphasis on team leadership and safety enforcement.

LICENSING:

  • Valid Class B Driver’s license with a good driving record required; Class A preferred.
  • Forklift and Electric Pallet Jack certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
  • Food Safety Manager certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).

SKILLS:

  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet safety standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and Google Suite.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to navigate complex operational challenges.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Physical: Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, walk, and turn/pivot throughout an 8-hour shift. Must be able to frequently lift, lower, push, pull, and carry boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Environment: Work is performed in a combination of office, truck cab, and warehouse environments. Exposure to variable temperatures, humidity, noise, and dust/dirt.
  • Availability: May require working weekends or adjusted schedules contingent upon operational needs and disaster relief efforts.

INTERNAL CANDIDATES

  • Must be in good standing with no corrective actions within the last 90 days.
