Responsibilities
  • Lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
  • Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
  • Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining classroom safety and order.
  • Conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Assimilate arriving children into the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest to them.
  • Attend to children's basic needs as age-appropriate, such as feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers.
  • Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
EnvironmentThis job operates in a childcare environment. The position will interact with children in early learning classrooms daily.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Expected ScheduleThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Extended hours may be necessary as needed to cover staffing during center hours.
TravelLocal travel may occasionally be required for training and staff development activities.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Minimum age of 18
  • TB test and physical before start date

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior teaching or child care experience
  • Completion of the South Carolina Early Childhood Credential (ECD 101)
  • At least 6 months of experience in a regulated child care facility


Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an FBI and SLED background check
  • Annual completion of 15 hours of training, including:
    • 5 hours in child growth and development
    • 5 hours in curriculum activities for children
    • Remaining hours in health, safety, or other child care-related topics
  • Current Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
  • If transporting children, a valid Class C driver's license with a clean Department of Public Safety record, plus 2 hours of transportation training annually
