The Purchasing Manager is responsible and accountable for vender selection, assessing vender capabilities, developing alternate sources, evaluating vendor performance, and reducing cost of ownership of purchased materials.
You will make an impact in this role by:
- Developing and implementing appropriate procedures to ensure all purchased materials and services conform to documented requirements and that the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate.
- Coordinating follow-up to improve customer service and maintain department records.
- Overseeing and directing activities of purchasing department.
- Supplier evaluation and selections.
- Contract negotiations.
- Coordinating procurement activities and contracts with global subsidiaries.
- Developing and implementing supplier quality management systems for continual improvements.
- Ensuring statutory and regulatory requirements are met in procurement of products and services.
- Traveling to suppliers and conducting on-site assessments of supplier’s products, facilities, capabilities and quality management systems.
Key skills and attributes include:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to perform with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to use of accounting software, inventory software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
- Must be able to readily perceive defects and communicate to suppliers.
- Analytical: Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data.
- Problem Solving: Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions.
- Customer Service: Responds promptly to customer’s needs; Responds to requests for service and assistance.

- Familiarity with purchasing and inventory systems and organizational interfaces.
- Must be team orientated.
- Excellent planning, organizational and communication skills.
- Previous staff administration experience.
- Business Acumen: Understands business implications of decisions; Displays orientation to profitability.
- Cost Consciousness: Develops and implements cost saving measures.
- Communication: Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Oral Communication: Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
- Written Communication: Writes clearly and informatively.
Requirements
To be considered for the Purchasing Manager role, you must have the following minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A) from a four-year college or university; or 1 to 2-year related experience and/or training' or equivalent of both.
- Minimum of 5-years in purchasing, preferably in a manufacturing environment. SAP experience preferred.
- CPP or CPPM certification
