Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a highly qualified, full-time Nutrition Care Associate to join our team to assist in delivering excellent care for our residents. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support) with a passion for working with an elderly population.
Nutrition Care Associates serve residents in Assisted Living and Memory Support dining rooms and provide tray service in private rooms, supporting the Dining and Catering Department's delivery of high quality service. With stunning waterside views, our facilities are state-of-the-art and offer attractive compensation and benefits packages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Post menus. Maintain proper table settings and cleanliness.
- Prepare plates and trays. Follow menu selections and dietary orders. Use sound judgment and initiative in making last minute diet changes and satisfying residents’ requests. Ensure food is served in correct portions at the proper temperature.
- Serve residents promptly and courteously in an orderly, unrushed manner.
- Following the meal service, transport the remaining dishes to the kitchen. Clean off the tables and chairs and reset the tables for the next meal.
- Maintain records of dietary needs and meal attendance.
- Demonstrate positive resident relations and facility’s quality care and service standards to residents, families, and guests. Consistently maintain a positive, cheerful demeanor.
- Maintain appropriate supplies needed for serving and nutritional needs.
- Follow applicable sanitation and safe food handling guidelines.
- Help educate residents on healthy eating habits and general nutrition, reporting progress and/or issues to the Nutrition Care Lead, Supervisor and/or Certified Dietary Manager.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- At least one (1) year of relevant work experience (e.g., senior services, long-term care, assisted living, memory support preferred).
- Food Handler’s Certification required (training offered during orientation) and the ability to safely handle food in accordance with facility policies and procedures, as well as all state and federal regulations.
- Current COVID-19 vaccine is required to support the health and safety of our residents and staff.
- Demonstrate integrity and discretion in the care of residents and in handling their health information
- Excellent communication skills with ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions accurately in a timely manner.
- Able to work with the elderly population in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion, performing duties with consideration for residents’ rights.
- Communicate tactfully and effectively with all personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
- Able to exert a minimum of 50 lbs. of energy in order to assist the elderly in and out of wheelchairs, beds, etc., as well as be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, turn, bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel, balance, maintain body equilibrium to prevent falls, reach overhead, push/pull, grasp with both hands, and fine manipulation.
- Must have normal eyesight or use corrective lenses in order to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to hear and distinguish between normal tones and be able to perceive the nature of sounds.
