About the Role

Description

Harbor’s Edge, a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) is located alongside the beautiful Elizabeth River in Norfolk, VA. Our Community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a highly qualified, full-time Plumber to join our Plant Ops maintenance team. This role involves performing skilled plumbing work, including the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all plumbing systems, equipment, fixtures, and related controls. All tasks must be completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.


Experience in senior living environments - such as long-term care, assisted living, or memory support - is highly preferred, along with a genuine passion for serving an elderly population and supporting excellent care for our residents.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related plumbing equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing issues, including leaks, clogs, drainage problems, and malfunctioning components.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure plumbing systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to support installations and repairs.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations staff to minimize disruption to residents and staff.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system updates.
  • Monitor inventory levels and request supplies or equipment as needed.
  • Support general building maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrate respect, courtesy, and professionalism when interacting with residents, particularly within a senior living environment.
  • Proficient in using a ProPress system for pipe joining and capable of installing Uponor (PEX) piping.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Technical or vocational training in plumbing, or a valid state plumber’s license or certification, is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of plumbing experience; senior living or healthcare facility experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Skilled in using plumbing tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., bend, climb, and work in confined spaces.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and customer service skills, with a compassionate approach when working around residents.
