About the Role

Description

The Business Service Representative (BSR) plays a vital role in the Veterans First Employment Services Program, serving as a liaison between Veterans seeking employment, JVS SoCal's workforce services, and the employer community. The BSR is responsible for developing and executing targeted job-placement strategies to ensure Veterans secure meaningful, sustainable employment.


This position requires strong relationship-building skills, knowledge of labor markets, and a passion for supporting Veterans. The BSR engages employers, identifies hiring needs, and develops workforce solutions—including customized training, apprenticeships, and On-the-Job Training opportunities. They also support participants directly with individualized job preparation, career guidance, and job matching.


The BSR coordinates and hosts employer recruitments, facilitates quarterly job fairs, and works closely with internal team members to provide a holistic, barrier-removal approach to employment services.

Requirements

  • A BA or BS degree in Social Work, Career Counseling, or other related fields 
  • Education may be substituted with experience. 
  • Passion for working with and supporting Veterans is essential.
  • Experience working with priority populations in workforce development, case management, career counseling, or related fields is strongly preferred. 
  • Military experience or working with Veteran populations is strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient multitasker with strong attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Ability to take initiative, think creatively, and work independently while contributing to team goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Assertive, friendly, and adaptable with the ability to work flexible hours when needed.
  • Primarily office-based with regular travel to employer sites, community partners, and workforce events.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height.  Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.
