This role is part of Microsoft’s Global Security Investigations team, which delivers scalable, best-in-class threat management and investigative services to mitigate physical risks to employees, external staff, guests, and facilities. The team investigates potential policy violations and other offenses against the company. In this role the candidate will be responsible for investigating a variety of physical security related matters that potentially impact the Microsoft workforce or facilities worldwide, reducing risk via the identification, intervention, and mitigation of physical threats, and upholding Microsoft’s ethical well-being by investigating violations of Microsoft policy. Responsibilities
Case Development & Preparation
- Independently identifies and triages highly complex, high‑risk reported issues to determine priority and required next steps.
- Organizes information and facilitates discussions to shape tactical investigation strategies and direction.
- Assesses and communicates immediate and potential risks to leadership and stakeholders, offering recommendations to overcome obstacles.
- Identifies, interprets, and leverages complex information sources, data sets, investigative tools, and technologies to support high‑risk investigations.
- Coordinates and collaborates with internal partners to execute investigation objectives.
- Distills information from complex data to create investigation plans, procedures, and documentation.
- Gathers, reviews, and synthesizes internal/external documentation, data, facts, and industry trends relevant to investigative matters.
- Compiles and tracks data from multiple complex sources to support case progression.
- Uses advanced interviewing skills to conduct highly complex interviews, establish facts, determine root causes, and validate findings.
- Analyzes interview data to identify insights, gaps, or outliers, and simplifies complex topics to support root‑cause analysis and remediation planning.
Case Management
- Manages and monitors suppliers, partners, and stakeholder resources to drive cases to timely and effective outcomes.
- May oversee programs, trainings, supplier utilization strategies, and budget‑aligned resource management.
- Drives clear communication and expectation‑setting with stakeholders throughout the case lifecycle.
- Documents complex case activities in accordance with global standards and produces clear, succinct investigative reports.
- Provides ongoing updates to customers, partners, stakeholders, and management, including recommended next steps and identified challenges.
- Supports stakeholders in addressing complex risks and improving operational effectiveness.
- Represents Microsoft in interactions with high‑profile internal and external stakeholders on complex investigations.
- Shares actionable intelligence, identifies risks, encourages stakeholder feedback, and contributes to operational and investigative improvements.
- Provides input on enhancements to detection capabilities and identifies process gaps.
- Develops and/or executes plans to improve team processes and operational excellence.

- Seeks feedback and incorporates it to drive continuous personal improvement.

- Maintaining certifications (e.g., basic medical, use‑of‑force, firearm qualification)
- Responds to occasional emergency situations at any hour with short notice.
- Travels as required.
- Participates in rotating 24×7 on‑call assignments.
Qualifications
4+ years experience in compliance, finance, data analytics, investigations, or a related field OR equivalent experience.

Citizenship & Verification:
This role requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship‑based legal restrictions. The position supports U.S. federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to citizenship requirements where permitted or required by law. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified using a valid U.S. passport.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Law, International Relations, or related field AND 8+ years experience in compliance, cyber, finance, data analytics, investigations, or related field OR equivalent experience.
- Deep knowledge in behavioral sciences, threat assessment, targeted violence prevention, and related physical security/safety risk disciplines.
- Professional certifications such as:
- Certified Threat Manager (CTM)
- Professional Certified Investigator (PCI)
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
- Proficiency with technology, including hardware, operating systems, networks, and advanced use of productivity tools (e.g., M365, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access/SQL, Power BI, SharePoint, Copilot).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Investigations IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $96,500 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,500 - $206,400 per year.
