About the Role

Job Overview:  Join our orthopedic surgery team as a Presurgical Testing RN. You’ll play a key role in preparing patients for surgery, assessing readiness, educating patients, and coordinating care with our surgical team. Our Orthopedic Surgery Center is built on compassion, excellence, and collaboration. Schedule/Type: PRN, M-F

Wage: $50/hr

Requirements

Essential Duties

  • Conduct thorough Pre-Operative Assessment patient assessments, including medical history reviews, physical examinations, and laboratory tests, to evaluate surgical readiness.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to assess and plan patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families about pre-operative instructions, including medications, diet, and preparation for surgery.
  • Address patient concerns, provide emotional support, and ensure informed consent.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of pre-surgical assessments and patient interactions in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Document and communicate any pertinent findings to the surgical team.
  • Coordinate pre-operative care plans with the surgical team, ensuring all necessary tests and evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless transitions in patient care.
  • Adhere to established protocols, standards, and regulatory requirements in pre-surgical testing and patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and outcomes.

  • Advanced understanding of anatomy, physiology, and deviations from normal.
  • Proficiency in using surgical equipment and technical tools.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and compliance with standards (e.g., AORN, ASPAN, CDC).
  • Ability to respond to rapidly changing conditions and manage competing demands.
  • Accurate and timely communication of patient care details.
  • Skill in conducting diagnostic tests, interpreting results, and managing follow-up.
  • Awareness of community resources and services to enhance patient care.
  • Ability to read and apply technical instructions for equipment safety.
  • Application of rational practices for patient safety and security.
  • Consistent hand hygiene and aseptic techniques.

Experience Required

  • 2 year of Pre-Surgical Testing (RN) experience in an Orthopedic setting preferred.
  • Acute Care: 1 year (Preferred)

Education/Certification requirements

  • Degree in Nursing: Bachelors Preferred
  • Current Colorado Registered Nurse license
  • BCLS & ACLS certification required.
