Position Summary
Saxton & Stump is seeking an experienced Senior HR Generalist with concentrated expertise in benefits administration and employee relations to support our expanding multi-office law firm. This role will collaborate with the firm’s HR Manager and team, providing day to day HR support. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for the administration of firm benefits. You will also collaborate with the firm’s HR Manager to ensure compliance with employment laws and firm policies.
The ideal candidate brings 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within a professional services or law firm environment, and demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and a service-oriented mindset.
Discretion, confidentiality, flexibility, and exceptional attention to detail are absolutely essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
- Administer the firm’s comprehensive benefits programs—including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement plans, FSA/HSA, PTO, and ancillary benefits—while keeping the HR Manager informed of updates, issues, and changes as needed.
- Work closely with payroll lead and Paylocity to troubleshoot issues.
- Act as primary liaison with benefits brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators
- Manage annual open enrollment, including planning, communications, employee education, and system configuration
- Oversee day-to-day benefits questions, eligibility issues, claims escalations, and life-event changes working with the firm’s payroll lead.
- Conduct benefits audits and ensure compliance with ERISA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, and related regulations
- Analyze benefits utilization and costs and provide recommendations for program improvements
Employee Relations
- Support firm’s HR Manager and where needed in the execution of confidential employee relations matters across all firm locations
- Support and resolve employee complaints, performance issues, conduct concerns, and policy violations
- Collaborate with HR Manager and department managers and leadership on performance management, discipline, corrective action plans, and terminations
- Provide guidance where needed on exempt/non-exempt issues, workplace accommodations, leaves of absence, and return-to-work processes
- Ensure consistent application of firm policies where applicable
- Support conflict resolution and promote a positive work environment that supports the operational needs of the firm.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FMLA, ADA, EEOC, wage and hour, leave laws, etc.)
- Maintain accurate HR documentation, employee files as needed
- As needed, support unemployment claims, workers’ compensation matters, and employment-related audits
HR Operations & Collaboration
- Serve as a key HR partner to Operations, Finance, Payroll, and Recruiting teams
- Support onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle processes as needed and where additional support is required.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- 7–10 years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with strong concentration in benefits and employee relations
- Experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred
- Strong benefits administration experience, including open enrollment, vendor management, interconnectivity & HRIS integration
- In-depth working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements
- Experience with Paylocity preferred
- Demonstrated experience managing sensitive issues
- SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
