We are looking to have a Data Center Facilities and Maintenance Technician to join our team at our Auburn Hills, MI data center location. This is an onsite role that will be Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and may require variable shift coverage if needed to assist the team. Additionally, travel between or Mid-west data centers occasionally as project needs arise will be required.


The Data Center Facilities and Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring the continuous operation, maintenance, and optimization of mission-critical infrastructure. As a hands-on technical expert, this role leads by example in driving 100% uptime across electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems through proactive maintenance, incident response, and project execution. The data center engineer serves as a subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with internal teams and vendors to uphold safety and performance standards, while also supporting the development of team capabilities through training and knowledge sharing. Though not a direct people manager, this role is instrumental in guiding day-to-day operations and fostering a culture of operational excellence.


Functions/Responsibilities:


Critical Systems Operations

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain all mechanical and electrical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, chillers, CRAHs, and building automation systems.
  • Lead execution of MOPs and SOPs to ensure safe, consistent maintenance on energized systems.
  • Oversee critical switching and lock-out/tag-out activities.
  • Respond to alarms and incidents; perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support BMS/EPMS monitoring, trending, and optimization for PUE and efficiency.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as primary point of technical escalation on shift for MEP issues.
  • Mentor and train technicians on systems, safety, and procedures.
  • Review and approve vendor scopes, MOPs, and switching sequences before execution.
  • Support commissioning, acceptance testing, and turnover of new infrastructure.

Reliability & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed shift logs, maintenance records, and equipment status reports.
  • Assist with updating critical infrastructure drawings, SOPs, and as-builts.
  • Participate in change management, incident management, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements and reliability enhancements.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce lockout/tagout, PPE, and safety procedures for all MEP activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site safety policies.
  • Support audits, testing, and documentation required for compliance programs.


Requirements

What you bring to the team:

  • 4+ Years Experience working in data centers and/or experience with data center infrastructure to include electrical, HVAC, fire suppression, and security systems.
  • Knowledge of planning and construction management processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of estimating, budgeting, and scheduling practices.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4+ Years Professional Experience in facilities management, electrical or mechanical engineering

Required License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Must be able to achieve CJIS certification within introductory period of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This position may be performed in either a standard office setting or a home office environment. It requires prolonged periods of sitting, frequent use of a computer and other office equipment, and effective time management in a self-directed work environment. Occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds may be required.
