Wood.Ash.Rye is a scratch-kitchen restaurant focused on thoughtful technique, seasonal ingredients, and handcrafted breads and pastries. We value creativity, discipline, and pride in craft. Our bakery program supports breakfast, brunch, dinner service, private dining, and special events.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Baker to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate has experience with dough development, lamination, scaling/portioning, and finishing pastries. This role is hands-on and requires early-morning production and consistency in quality. Night shifts will also be required where you will be preparing/plating desserts for dinner guests and prepping for the morning shift. You will work independently and as part of a professional kitchen team.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and bake breads, rolls, laminated pastries, muffins, cookies, and specialty bakery items daily
- Scale, mix, ferment, shape, proof, and bake doughs with consistency
- Maintain par levels and production schedules to meet service demands
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of bakery workspace and equipment
- Follow recipes and methods accurately while contributing creative ideas to menu development
- Label, rotate, and manage inventory to minimize waste
- Uphold food safety / sanitation standards (ServSafe preferred)
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years professional baking or pastry experience preferred (but will train the right candidate)
- Strong understanding of dough development, fermentation, and baking techniques
- Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Able to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods
- Excellent time management and attention to detail
- Passion for hospitality, craft, and continual improvement
Schedule & Compensation:
- Typically 4–5 days/week, early morning and night shift
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience
