Rate: $19.00 hourly

Status: Seasonal

  • 19 years of age or older preferable 
  • If applying for Winter Camp, must be available to work for all these dates  December 22nd, 23rd, 26th, 29th, 30th, & January 2nd
  • If applying for Summer Camp, mandatory 40 hours per week will be required and will work the entirety of  June thru August.
  • Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the summer camp program.
  • Supervise seasonal camp staff, including camp counselors and assistant directors.
  • Potentially supervise temporary employees, community service workers, or volunteers as directed by the Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Superintendent.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate curriculum for the Florissant Parks and Recreation Summer Camp program.
  • Create and manage all necessary documentation for camp activities, including forms, letters, and emergency procedures. This includes maintaining detailed records of allergies and other special health requirements for campers and staff.
  • Collaborate with the Recreation Supervisor in the recruitment and hiring of camp staff. Play an active role in training, mentoring, and supervising the camp staff.
  • Ensure accurate attendance records are maintained for all participants and staff members.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily camp activities, ensuring a balance of structure and fun.
  • Actively engage with campers and staff, ensuring all camp activities are safe, inclusive, and appropriately engaging. Respond to behavioral issues with proactive and reactive interventions as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, sharing both positive feedback and addressing any concerns or behavioral issues in a constructive manner.
  • Enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures to ensure the well-being of all participants and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be available for the entirety of the summer camp program. (June – August).
  • Prior experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting.
  • Prior experience in management or leadership role.
  • Previous experience in a camp setting or teaching environment is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • This is an outdoor job so needs to be able to work outdoors in various weather.
