Summary/Objective: Under minimal supervision performs various pulmonary diagnostic, assessment, and therapeutic procedures.
Essential Functions
- Under the direction / supervision of the Lead Respiratory Therapist, ensures all PFT equipment is set-up, calibrated and operates properly. Performs complex pulmonary function diagnostic testing to include, but not limited to, Spirometry, Lung Sub-divisions, Diffusing Capacity, and Simple Pulmonary Stress testing. Verifies MD order, patient ID twice, and seeks personal dialogue with MD for unusual situations.
- Under the direction / supervision of the Lead Respiratory Therapist practice health care according to the Florida Respiratory Care Act #468. Performs Respiratory Care modalities under MD orders. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintain current documentation of skills ensuring physician orders are followed.
- Adheres to hand hygiene policy. Replaces HEPA filter, MDI spacer and Nose Clip after each patient use. Reports any potential safety hazards, to supervisor, asap. Transports oxygen tanks utilizing appropriate carrier device. Possess clinical knowledge in administration of oxygen via high flow devices; i.e., manual resuscitations.
- Documents pertinent notations in PFT Comments section. Transfers patient data and test results, via EMR, to over reading MD, upon test completion, without errors. (>5 annually is unacceptable). Submits charges, via EMR, for each test, upon completion, without errors.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience: Registered or certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Must have a current CPR Card (or obtained within 90 days of employment). Completion of AMA approved program (one or two years) for respiratory therapy. Minimum of one-year experience in Pulmonary Diagnostics or PFT lab.
Preferred Education and Experience: ACLS preferred. Knowledge of respiratory care principles, procedures, & techniques for patients from young adult age to geriatric age, Pulmonary diagnostic equipment operation, calibration and maintenance.
