Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist 1
Part time 6-29 hours/per week

The Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist 1 is responsible for the planning, implementation, and the oversight of the Recreation Respite Program as well as recreation activities and other leisure services within other agency programs. The position’s specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure quality opportunities for all families/participants registered for ACHIEVE’s Recreation and Leisure Services.
- Provide implementation and facilitation of recreation activities that are on the program schedule as well as spontaneous programs as assigned.
- Foster and promote independent leisure pursuits of participants by providing necessary tools and supplies.
- Ensure that all recreation equipment and supplies are properly stored and properly maintained.
- Facilitate recreation and leisure activities with participants.
- Transport participants to recreation and leisure activities as needed.
- Strive to meet the American Therapeutic Recreation (ATRA) Standards of Practice
- Provide supervision and direct care responsibilities with program participants.
- Responsible for addressing and reporting all incidents, accidents, observed and/or suspected situations which adversely impact on the health and safety of individuals receiving services.
- Follow department and facility policies and procedures to assure that the cognitive, physical, psychological/emotional, social, and spiritual needs of participants are met and maintained.
What we are looking for:
- Actively cooperate with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services and the Therapeutic Recreation Specialists to achieve the goals and objectives of all recreation programs
- Encourage and maintain a positive working relationship with all departments in the agency, parents, staff, individuals receiving services and community partners while expecting the same from direct report staff
- Communicate all health, safety, program concerns, sensitive situations and incidents to supervisor including those involving participants receiving services
- Complete required documentation and perform documentation reviews to ensure all records are maintained in conformance with rules, regulations, policies and procedures and billing practices.
- Obtain and maintain required training certifications that include: First Aid, CPR, etc. (paid for and provided by the agency).
- Attend all required training, staff development programs and committees and/or staff meetings as required by the agency and/or State and Federal regulation
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess good interpersonal, written, oral, and communication abilities and effective time management/organizational skills
- Able to work scheduled hours that may include overtime, weekend and/or holiday timeframes and maintain an acceptable work attendance as defined in the agency’s employee policy manual and handbook.
- Be computer literate with knowledge in agency operating systems and applicable software required for department needs.
- Demonstrate sound judgment in normal work and emergency situations
- Must physically be able to perform required certifications and lift fifty (50) pounds

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working with individuals that have functional differences preferred, but not required
- A valid driver’s license and record that meets the agency’s insurance carrier guidelines
