Horizon Project Inc. was founded in 1977 by a group of local citizens in Milton-Freewater with a goal to enable adults with developmental disabilities to participate in out of home activities. Over the past 40 years, Horizon has grown geographically and functionally to become the largest single provider of residential and employment supports to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Today our service professionals provide comprehensive community services in Milton-Freewater, Pendleton, and Hermiston. We serve people in smaller surrounding communities and in parts of unincorporated Umatilla County.
About the Role

Description

Starting Pay: $16 - $18.50 per hour (DOE)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM-4PM (40 hrs per week) **Some evening & weekend availability is required**

Category: Full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime), temporary 6-month position


We’re looking for a temporary full-time Direct Support Professional/Job Coach to work with our clients that have intellectual and developmental disabilities in Pendleton, Hermiston, and Milton-Freewater over the next 6 months. Depending on program needs, this may become a permanent position. This is a full-time job and you are eligible for overtime. A company vehicle is provided for work related travel and client transportation.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living including bathroom use and personal hygiene
  • Support client employment and do job coaching (+$1 per hour when job coaching)
  • Provide safe, respectful, and compassionate care
  • Document client progress accurately on a computer
  • Follow safety and emergency protocols
  • Use adaptive equipment and transport clients as needed (Company Vehicle provided)
  • Plan and accompany clients on community outings and activities
  • Administer client medications per the prescription
  • Work in Pendleton, Hermiston, and Milton-Freewater per program needs

Important Skills:

  • Basic computer skills (Typing, email, printer/copier).

Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 18 years old
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must pass a pre-employment driving records screening
  • Must have a valid driver's license that is insurable by HPI's auto insurance provider (Driving Required Position)
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check by Oregon DHS (renewed every 2 years)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal)

Physical Demands

Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program participants. Regularly move about or position self to supervise and interact with participants at their level. Occasionally lift, transport, position, push/pull or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of program participant. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend activities and meetings within the Umatilla County. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
