About the Role

Description

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Security Officer for the evening shift. Reporting to the Director of Security and under the direct supervision of shift supervisors, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, and volunteers as well as property. This role involves the prevention of unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, and other illegal or unsafe behavior. Security Officers are expected to respond promptly to incidents, enforce policies, and provide exceptional customer service while  upholding the museum’s security protocols.

Requirements

  • Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish a visible presence.
  • Perform security checks of doors, windows, gates, and fences.
  • Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and access control systems.
  • Control access to buildings and restricted areas; verifies identification of staff and visitors.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents including fire alarms, medical situations, or security threats.
  • Report and document incidents accurately using daily activity reports and incident reports.
  • Enforces organizational rules, regulations, and procedures consistently.
  • Assist in emergency evacuation procedures and provides first response as needed.
  • Conduct security inspections of buildings, vehicles, equipment, and visitor bags.
  • Provide escort services for staff, contractors, or visitors when requested.
  • Communicate effectively with law enforcement, emergency services, and internal teams as required; communicates via security equipment according to department protocols.
  • Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
  • Complete all other reasonable tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Prior experience in a security, military, or law enforcement role preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and experience with security equipment and surveillance systems.
  • CPR / First Aid certification a plus.
  • Strong observation and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • Physically fit and capable of standing or patrolling for extended periods.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • A current and valid driver’s license is required
