About the Role

Description

Midwest Valve Services, a Novaspect company is currently offering an opportunity for a Shop Manager to join our fast paced, customer-oriented team. The successful candidate will exemplify and promote Novaspect Identity throughout the repair team. They will be responsible for updating and developing the overall shop calendar in collaboration with the Shop Supervisor; ensuring all customer jobs and work orders are entered, direct reports have the resources, equipment, and vehicles needed to complete the jobs, being available for questions, identifying additional resources that may be needed, and informing direct manager, customers, and/or sales team of any critical issues or changes.


Shop Manager Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Employee Management: Promote Novaspect Identity and culture of quality workmanship. Work with Shop Supervisor(s), Project Manager(s) and Shipping/Receiving to support their efforts in managing their direct reports; review all performance issues and provide direction, support the discipline process; review performance satisfaction forms; review compensation annually, approve terminations in conjunction with the Shop General Manager and HR; provide counsel as needed.
  • Time and Expense Management: Approve time cards, overtime reports, time-off requests, and approve individual expenses.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor job performance, address concerns with the General Shop Manager and HR, and draft documentation for performance issues.
  • Safety Oversight: Ensure shop safety, collaborate with the Safety Management team, investigate incidents, and develop corrective actions.
  • Quality Assurance: Work with the Quality Management team to ensure adherence to quality plans, complete certifications and audits, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure Shipping & Receiving department is meeting performance metrics for accuracy, meeting both site & customer delivery requirements, and providing a clean/ organized warehouse.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Collaborate with QC to ensure high customer satisfaction on completed repairs and support Shop Supervisors in meeting quality expectations.
  • KPI and Workflow Optimization: Manage shop KPIs, optimize workflow and technician productivity, profitability, and provide direction on goals.
  • Budget Management: Adhere to the shop budget, determine CapEx needs, order supplies, and approve expenses.
  • Training and Development: Ensure training plans align with business needs, measure completion rates, partner with Training and L&D Specialist, and drive training initiatives across departments.
  • Backlog Management: Monitor and improve backlog, and work with estimators and coordinators to meet delivery expectations.
  • Sales and Customer Interaction: Serve as the main point of contact for sales and customer inquiries. Work with estimators, coordinators, and Shop Supervisors to resolve issues. If a Shop General Manager is in place they will be the main point of contact for customer relationship management.
  • Resource Allocation: Identify and procure special tools, services, and parts needed for jobs, and ensure departments have necessary resources and equipment.
  • Staffing: Work with direct manager to determine staffing needs, outside services and/or additional labor requirements; review recommendations provided by Shop Supervisors; initiate and approve expenditures, outside resources, and new employee hiring; support the onboarding process for all shop personnel.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement efforts, delegate duties, and engage employees.
  • Shop Maintenance: Responsible for overall shop cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles to adhere to regular QESH audits.
  • Operations Support: Lead the inside sales staff with the quoting and invoicing process and communicate any out of scope or change order requirements during repairs. Provide guidance and support for changes in job scope and/or timetables to ensure customer's expectations are met.
  • Emergency Support: Ensure adequate coverage for after-hours and emergency support,and provide emergency support as needed.
  • Business Tools: Ensure that all company business system tools are utilized throughout the shop and incorporated within daily work processes.
  • Shop Supervision: If no supervisor is in place the Shop Manager is accountable for those responsibilities.

Requirements

Shop Manager Education and/or Experience:

  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance, heavy equipment, or related experience required.
  • 3+ years of managing people required.
  • High School diploma required.
  • High computer application literacy (including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn internal business systems).

Shop Manager Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work on your feet for 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work in a loud industrial environment
  • Comfortable working around industrial equipment with exposed moving parts
  • Ability to climb stairs (up to 20 flights per day)
  • Ability to drive 8 hours as needed in a day – although not typical

Shop Manager Pay:

  • $105K-$125K plus a 10% bonus earning potential
  • The final offer will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to the candidates depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity. Hiring at the top end of the range would not be typical, to allow for future meaningful salary growth in the position.

Shop Manager Schedule: Monday-Friday with weekends as needed.
