About the Role

Description

Position Description: Medical Assistants operate under the direct supervision of the Center Manager and more generally under the Medical/Laboratory Director, and at times will take instruction from the Physician Substitute on site. Medical Assistants ensure donor suitability, product integrity and the continued good health of donors through compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, state regulations, and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual guidelines and any other applicable regulatory standards.

Medical Assistant:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (the following list is intended to be a guideline. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned): Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Greet and register donors
  • Administer health history questionnaire to donors 
  • Set up and operate instruments used for the testing of donor vitals and other station equipment (Quality Control)
  • Assess and record donor weight and vitals
  • Proficiency testing of equipment
  • Attend to donors’ needs
  • Ensure area is clean and maintained according to regulations 
  • Communicate delays and other issues to center management, nurse and/or other necessary parties
  • Assess supply inventory; order and restock, as needed
  • Document activities and issues, when necessary
  • Answer donor inquiries 
  • Available to travel up to 25 miles to other facilities for training or assisting other center's staffing needs
  • Other duties, as assigned


Requirements

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to operate accurately the following equipment:

  • Computer (basic skills include typing, following prompts on monitor, using mouse, saving information etc.)
  • Hematastat II
  • Refractometer
  • Safepette
  • Spot Vitals Signs monitor (Blood Pressure/Pulse & Thermometer)
  • Memory Monitoring Thermometer 
  • Relative Humidity Monitor 
  • Scale

Physical Requirements:

  • Read computer screens, procedure manuals and other documents.
  • Hear doorbells, alarms, telephone, and other mechanical devices.
  • Work confidently while being observed during frequent quality inspections.
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers, to handle & feel objects, tools and controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Required to stand for extended intervals, walk, climb and balance; stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Physical ability to operate equipment used on donor floor areas that may require repetitive motion and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read while standing or sitting in front of a computer for short periods of time.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required such as eyewear, lab coats, and gloves
