About the Role

Description

NON-EXEMPT. Implements the day-to-day programmatic aspects of the Radiological Protection Plan in accordance with all applicable procedures, state and federal regulations.


Duties

· Perform air sampling, radiation surveys, radioactive contamination control and monitoring, operation of count room equipment such as smear counters, gamma spectroscopy systems including ISOCS, access control, posting and labeling, completion and management of records, responding to accidents and emergencies, vehicle and equipment control, instrumentation source check, and personnel and equipment decontamination.

· Generate radiological data records and review data reports.

· Support industrial hygiene and industrial safety tasks as cross-trained and required by position assignment.

· Perform collateral safety and health duties commensurate with qualifications, aptitude, and ability (including job coverage, monitoring, and surveillance).

· Participate in the formulation of action plans in response to identified deficiencies.

· Perform detailed technical operations in compliance with written work plans, protocols, and procedures.

· Provide guidance and monitors the performance of technical support in the assigned area.

· Perform other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

Continuous field/facility work required where there is potential for exposure to radiation, noise, dust, and hot and cold temperatures. Climbing, walking and lifting will be normal daily requirements. Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing personnel protective equipment including respiratory protection.


Requirements

· One or more years’ experience in applied health physics.

· Education may substitute for up to one year of experience – six months for a related A.S. degree or one year for a related B.S. degree.

· High school diploma or equivalent and valid driver’s license.

· DOE “L” or “Q” security clearance or the ability to obtain the same, as required

· Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, work packages, and/or protocols; oversee and guide radiological support and radiological workers; use radiological instrumentation; source check instrumentation; train junior technicians in the use of radiological instrumentation; appropriately document survey and data collection results; and use different levels of PPE (including respiratory protection).

· Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with field, project management, and client representatives is essential; use and manipulate computer spreadsheets and/or databases for purposes of data reduction, presentation, and review; review and qualify HP/IH data results and calculations (surveys, air monitoring, etc.); explain data results to non-HP/IH personnel; and use of word processing software.
