DESCRIPTION:

Low Voltage Cable Technician encompasses a large range of technicians, those with little or no knowledge of telecommunications cabling installation up to those many years of experience. A Low Voltage Technician should have the ability to learn the basic concepts of copper and fiber optic cabling, installation and service with the desire to learn various voice, data, security, and CCTV systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  •  Arrive to job site as instructed by Crew Manager and/or Job Foreperson.
  •  Follow oral or written instructions of on-site manager (Job Foreperson).
  •  Install, terminate and test of voice, data, fiber optic, CCTV, Burglar and card access cables in or around commercial buildings and retail environments per blueprints, scope of work and/or oral instruction.
  •  Learn the “Source” method of installation.
  •  Communicate with Job Foreperson on daily progress and personal improvement.
  •  Communicate with Crew Manager to determine training progress, upcoming opportunities and personal advancement.
  •  Turn in training reports, mileage request forms and expense reimbursement forms weekly.
  •  Demonstrate responsibility when using company owned tools and equipment
  •  Follow all written and verbal safety guidelines.
  •  Responsible for on-site safety of self and others.
  •  Use company provided software in real time to track hours and expenses.
  •  Participate in departmental and company meetings and events as instructed.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training – Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must have the ability to participate in classroom and on the job training.


Experience – 

  • Applicants must have minimum 1 year experience in Low Voltage
  • Valid Drivers' License
  • Good Motor Vehicle Record


Necessary Special Requirements – Must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: interview, cabling skill tests, reference checks and background checks. Applicant must have reliable transportation. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.


Applicants must have the ability to obtain the items on Source Communications’ telecom tools list.


Applicants must be able to understand verbal and written English. Applicants must be able to complete written paperwork in English.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative or those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. This person will perform the majority of his or her duties in an offsite commercial or construction environment. The noise level in such an environment is moderate to loud. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with hours varying highly. Day shifts typically begin at 7:30 AM and can last 8+ hours. Night shifts typically begin in the late evening; extend over midnight and typically last 10+ hours. Both night and day shifts are necessary to fulfill the duties of this job. On-call and weekend hours are also required. This position will also require out-of-town travel and overnight stays as demanded by customer needs.


Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Technicians should also have the ability to differentiate between different sizes and color of wires


While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit, talk or hear, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with arms and hands. Performance of job duties will require a wide range of physical movements, occasional exposure to temperature changes, and operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment. The employee will be required to reach forward and do simple grasping; frequently to constantly required to stand and push/pull; frequently required to walk, lift, carry, bend/stoop, twist, reach below the waist, power grasp, and perform cervical rotation, occasionally to frequently required to climb stairs, crouch/kneel/squat, reach above the shoulder, do fine manipulation, perform cervical extension, or work at heights, occasionally required to sit, reach horizontally, reach overhead and perform cervical side-bending; and rare or on an occasional basis required to crawl and be in a quadruped position. Physical demands are described as heavy requiring material handling demands that can exceed 50 lbs occasionally, and/or in excess of 30 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 10 lbs of force constantly in order to move objects). Level 3 Installer will primarily work in an environment that requires the lifting, handling and carrying of a 50-pound ladder and working at heights of 3-25 feet off the ground.
