Microsoft’s Business Planning organization directs our commercial portfolio’s pricing, packaging, licensing, channel, and monetization strategies. Few organizations exist that have such a direct impact on how Microsoft goes to market, which reverberates across the entire industry. Within Business Planning, the New Commerce and Commercial Strategy organization works across Azure, M365 and Dynamics 365 driving cross-cloud monetization strategies for how and where customers buy. This includes defining the strategy for Microsoft’s commerce experiences, commerce platform investments and prioritization, channel business models, product licensing and use rights, and support as well as driving growth through audience specific offers and experiences.
As a Business Planner in the New Commerce and Commercial Strategy organization you will have the opportunity to influence and enable the strategic initiatives that drive company performance through delivering business impact optimization of commerce platform investments, innovative business models, increased competitiveness and enhanced customer and partner experience. You will partner closely with stakeholders across engineering, legal, finance, operations, marketing, and field sales to formulate strategy recommendations and drive alignment.

Responsibilities
As a Business Planner in the New Commerce & Commercial Strategy organization, you will influence and enable business planning strategies focused on ensuring optimal ROI of commerce platform investments, taking responsibility for defining and evolving the strategy across key business units and stakeholders, gaining executive alignment, and translating the strategy into business outcomes. This is a high visibility role where you’ll be working directly with senior leaders to stack rank and prioritize strategic investments needs, drive trade-off and business impact analysis, and represent your stakeholders in the broader Commerce Prioritization workstream.
How you can make an impact:
- Influence and execute strategic rhythms of business with senior leaders, acting as a business partner to help assess feasibility, test business cases, stack rank and prioritize commerce platform investment asks.
- Work directly with the business, field sales, marketing, legal and finance to get clarity on business impact, risk, assumptions and trade-off analysis on commerce investment asks, business models, and other initiatives.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the Commerce Prioritization process, principles, and strategy – helping to create clarity and ensure a shared understanding across the business.
- Build business cases on specific topics to influence investment decisions, roadmaps, go-to-market strategy, and/or strategic deal outcomes.
- Drive cross-functional alignment on business vision and priorities, translating the strategy into requirements.
- Conduct internal and external research to gain new perspectives to cultivate and validate business cases.
- Influence and execute the approach to bring a strategy to life through roadmap and change management planning and developing content that synthesizes details into an effective story that can be used across the organization.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- 3+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science, Economics, Business, or related field
- OR 3+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience spanning corporate strategy, business planning, product management, or management consulting.
- Experience in the cloud computing industry, and an understanding of sales, channel and contracting motions.
- Experience connecting complex business models quickly.
- Experience using a structured and analytical approach to problem-solving with the ability to utilize data.
- A proven track record of engaging with cross-functional stakeholders to gain credibility and partnership quickly.
- Storytelling skills with proven ability to present to and influence.
Business Planning IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,100 - $169,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $112,000 - $185,300 per year.
