sg360° is seeking an experienced Pressroom Shift Supervisor to lead pressroom operations during 2nd shift. This role is responsible for supervising press crews, coordinating workflow, and ensuring production schedules, quality standards, safety requirements, and operational efficiencies are consistently met during evening operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep web printing expertise who can independently resolve production issues while maintaining strong communication with day and overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise all pressroom operations during the assigned 2nd shift, ensuring safety, quality, housekeeping, and productivity standards are met
- Communicate effectively with 1st and 3rd shift leadership regarding press status, running issues, and job priorities
- Review press logs, shift notes, and job tickets to ensure accurate execution of work orders
- Assign personnel appropriately and ensure presses and support departments are fully and properly staffed
- Coordinate with Maintenance to report and address equipment repair needs
- Assist with resolving pre-press, job ticket, printing, or finishing issues; document changes as required
- Monitor and adjust press operations including register, color, folds, glue, die cuts, perforations, and other specifications
- Approve plate makeovers, color OKs, samples, and ensure proper time stamp intervals
- Ensure all safety devices are functional and that personal protective equipment (PPE) is used correctly
- Meet or exceed waste, spoilage, and run-speed standards for each order
- Train and coach press crews on press systems, setup, auxiliary equipment, and standard operating procedures
- Ensure routine and preventative maintenance is performed on all equipment
- Provide customer assistance related to color approvals or production questions, on-site or by phone
- Audit and complete shift production reports, documenting any issues or downtime
- Provide timely performance feedback to employees and assist with workforce coordination (time off, vacations, layoffs, etc.)
- Escalate and seek assistance for critical issues as needed, regardless of time or shift
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Above-average verbal and written English communication skills
- Strong math, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership abilities
- Proven ability to anticipate, analyze, and solve pressroom and personnel issues
- Ability to use measuring and calibration equipment
- Superior knowledge of press systems, controls, inline finishing equipment, and the technical printing process
- Basic computer proficiency and experience with production data collection systems
Education & Training
- High school diploma required; degree in management or business preferred
- Trade or vocational training strongly preferred
- Equipment manufacturer training a plus
- OSHA-required safety training
- Experience operating production data collection systems and applying company policies and procedures
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in a web printing facility
- Minimum of 5 years as a First Pressman
- Prior experience as a Pressroom Shift Supervisor preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Full range of motor and motion skills in all body areas
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment
Travel: Minimal local travel may be required for meetings, training, or business needs
