Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Youth Care Specialist?

  • As a Youth Care Specialist in the Thompson Youth Stabilization department, you will provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavior modification techniques to youth who have night-to-night placement in DSS offices and/or have limited stability in their home.
  • A typical day as a Youth Care Specialist will include responding to requests made for client intervention, coordinating sessions, de-escalating youth, and completing documentation. As a Youth Care Specialist, an on-call schedule for weekends and flexibility are required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred but not required (based on life experience)
  • 2 years of relevant experience, preferably working with youth within a secure residential facility and/or a behavioral health setting
  • Experience working in an on-call or shift-based setting
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as it pertains to the department you are in.
  • All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required.
