About the Role

America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

Receives cash from customers in payment for goods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up area in accordance with opening procedures.
  • Operates cash register and displays cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen, where available.
  • Makes change and issues receipts when requested.
  • Prepares menu items to standard recipes.
  • Prepares menu items to order.
  • Records amounts received and prepare cashier reports.
  • Maintain sanitation in accordance with local and state health department regulations.
  • Prepare inventory at end of shift.
  • Answers questions concerning racing, schedules, and reservations, and gives information concerning coming attractions.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean, restocking at beginning and end of shift.
  • Closes area in accordance with closing procedures.
  • Provides outstanding Customer Service at all times while conducting themselves in a manner consistent with the highest ethical and moral standards prevailing in the business community in which we operate.

                

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from team members, regulatory agencies or members of the staff. Ability to write and present information to management in a reasonable manner. Ability to perform normal mathematical computations about the implementation of current duties. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draws valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.   

Pari-mutuel industry and cash handling experience are desirable but not necessary. Ability to work in a high-volume environment. Excellent verbal communications skills with strong attention to detail. Be a self-starter and work with minimum supervision. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours as required including nights, weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Office/Casino environment; Subject to outdoor temperature. Exposed to bright lights and noise at times. The work environment consists of very non-demanding surroundings with a low noise level.

Constant wrist motion, sit, hear and eye/hand coordination; Frequently speak, read, write, stand, walk, bend and stoop; Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk. The employee frequently is also required to stand, walk and reach with arms and hands, bend and can lift at least 25 pounds.
