About the Role
Overview

What a time to join Microsoft! The Office of the Chief Economist, Corporate Vice President, works across the company to pursue commercial value using economics and data science. Examples of our work include algorithms that grow Microsoft’s cloud revenue and resource efficiency; some of the first-ever studies of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) changes the way that people work; and market design for software resellers.

We are looking for a Principal Data Scientist with broad technical skills, business acumen, and a tech lead attitude. You will work alongside world-class colleagues on high-visibility projects answering some of Microsoft’s most pressing challenges. You will work directly with business partners to identify opportunities, and you will help your team prioritize them. You will be a coach to developing colleagues, and you will set standards and good practices.

Your initial focus will involve building algorithmic support for our deal teams, using machine learning (ML), experimentation, and good analytics. This is an opportunity to rethink, build, and operate internal processes and software.

Successful candidates can dive deep into sophisticated modeling approaches when needed; but more importantly, they know when a simple and pragmatic solution will do just as well, and they know how to inspire the same in others. They know how to tell good stories through data, how to visualize, and how to use many fast iterations in the face of ambiguous problems.

Our team values entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and continuous learning. You will be able to shape and grow a positive and productive data science culture. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. We value a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
