The Pilot Instructor Lead/Test provides advanced pilot instruction, supports instructor standardization, and performs simulator test-crew duties to verify training device fidelity and accuracy, in accordance with the C-5 Training System Performance Work Statement (PWS) and applicable Air Force standards. Training includes aircraft systems, normal and emergency procedures, and mission-specific operations.


Essential Functions of the Position: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required for a C-5 Pilot Instructor Lead/Test. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Conduct academic and simulator instruction for pilot initial, transition, requalification, and continuation training.

• Operate simulator instructor stations, introduce malfunctions, and manage training profiles and scenarios.

• Evaluate student performance, provide detailed debriefs, and complete required training records and documentation.

• Support flight evaluations, remedial training, and instructor standardization activities.

• Assist with courseware review, safety initiatives, and updates to training materials and procedures.

• Lead or support the coordination of pilot training programs and monitor instructor performance and adherence to standards

• Conduct simulator test events to compare device performance to aircraft behavior and support SIMCERT and post-modification testing.

• Support Instructor Evaluator responsibilities in accordance with PWS 3.14.2.2.

• Assist with courseware review, safety and quality audits, FCIF updates, and other administrative duties as assigned.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

The following are the requisite education and/or experience required to qualify for the position as a C-5 Pilot Instructor Lead/Test.

  • Previously qualified as a C-5 AMP/C-5M Aircraft Commander
  • Flight experience:
  • o 1,000 C-5 flight hours, or
  • o 500 C-5 flight hours and 1,200 total flight hours (TFT) in mobility aircraft.
  • Graduate of a formal instructor pilot course.
  • Minimum of 200 C-5 Instructor Pilot hours.
  • Associates degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Secret security clearance.
  • Knowledge of C-5 operations, systems, instruction, or maintenance as applicable.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Meets all Pilot Instructor requirements in PWS 3.14.3.1, including aircraft commander, flight hour, instructor course, and instructor hour standards
  • Prior experience as a lead, standards, or evaluator pilot instructor strongly preferred
  • In accordance with PWS 3.14.3.4, typically dedicates at least 40 percent of available time to test aircrew duties, with remaining time allocated to instruction or other duties
