About the Role

Description

We’re looking for a detail-oriented Permitting Specialist to manage the Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) permitting across each jurisdictions in which Great Lakes Petroleum currently operates. This role will ensure compliance with environmental, fire code, and regulatory standards by coordinating with internal teams and Federal and State agencies, tracking and regulatory changes, and maintaining accurate records.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching and tracking permitting requirements for ASTs across multiple states.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, modifications, renewals, and notifications in coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor and update internal procedures based on changes in regulations and codes.
  • Coordinate with environmental consultants, contractors, and internal teams to gather required documentation for permitting.
  • Maintain and manage accurate records of all permits, approvals, inspections, and related communications.
  • Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies, resolving any permitting issues and clarifying compliance requirements.
  • Support internal audits and provide necessary documentation for environmental inspections or compliance reviews.
  • Assist with preparing and updating AST registration databases and compliance tracking tools.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify and resolve potential compliance issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Associate degree considered with combined experience in environmental permitting
  • Minimum of 2 years in environmental permitting, compliance, or regulatory affairs
  • Experience with ASTs or similar infrastructure is a plus
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Pass background and pre-screening check

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, NFPA 30, SPCC rules, fire codes)
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Excellent research, organizational, and document management skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply environmental requirements and translate regulations, permit conditions, and requirements into compliance guidance
  • Effective communication skills with strong written and verbal abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Travel 

  • May be required for inspections, agency meetings, or field assessments
